RESTON, VA, 25 April 2016 — Global satellite fleet operator SES Government Solutions (SES GS) transmitted live video over a 4G nanoLTE bubble powered by Persistent Telecom and an O3b satellite system for U.S. Government customers during a demonstration earlier this month. This roaming service model allows users to stream live video and data from the field to remote commanders in real time. This technology is enabled by O3b’s high throughput Medium Earth Orbit satellites and their low latency features.

“The U.S. Government can now integrate smartphones into remote field operations and create a mobile workforce without facing any delays in communication,” said President and CEO of SES GS, Pete Hoene. “We are proud to be poised and ready to support a global, mobile network for our customers with this capability.”

During the demonstration, U.S. Government customers were able to use mobile phones and tablets outside of Wi-Fi range and transport real time video through the PTI LTE bubble and stream the footage without delay back to a cloud server located in Ashburn, VA. This setup allows for high bandwidth and broadband IP communications which include standard and high definition (HD) video, ultra HD video, voice and teleconferencing. This mission-critical technology is compatible with any standard smartphone and paves the way for an increased use of mobile devices for the warfighter. In essence each soldier, sailor, airman and marine could be a sensor in the overall network.

Typical coverage within a single nanoLTE node is 6 miles in diameter.  The sphere of connectivity is scalable with multiple nanoLTE nodes and can be extended up to 22 miles, depending on the exact network configuration. All Persistent Telecom equipment for this particular showcase is easily transportable. The solutions featured in the demonstration are available from Persistent Telecom and SES GS’s GSA Schedule. The demonstration was attended by over 50 U.S. Government guests and is the third consecutive successful demonstration of SES GS applications leveraging O3b’s high throughput and low latency capabilities.
